Self-Monitoring

Choose independence - enjoy the freedom to test anywhere and stay in range

If you are on anticoagulation therapy, you know that your doctor needs frequent prothrombin time (PT/INR) test results to help you stay in your target range. But sometimes circumstances can make it difficult and expensive to get to the lab or doctor’s office for testing.
Now, you have an option known as Patient Self-Testing (PST) that lets you check your PT/INR anytime, anywhere you want, with a simple fingerstick test.

Self-testing your PT/INR is more convenient and offers several advantages over having all of your testing done at the lab or your doctor’s office.

  • Fast and easy– It only takes a few easy steps and about a minute to get an INR result.
  • Simple fingerstick test– Most patients prefer testing with a small drop of blood from a fingerstick over having blood drawn from a vein.
  • Convenient– Test when you need to, wherever you are; no need to travel to and from appointments or interrupt your busy schedule.
  • Time in range– Testing frequently makes it easier for your doctor to adjust your oral anticoagulant therapy on a timely basis, which may result in more time in the therapeutic range for you and a reduced risk for complications, such as clots or bleeding

The decision about starting Patient Self-Testing (PST) begins with a conversation with your physician. If you and your doctor agree that PST is a good fit, you will be directed to a Training Center who will help arrange training for you. When you’ve successfully completed the training, you’ll be ready to perform PT/INR tests on your own – anywhere, anytime.
PST, when done properly, can help make your anticoagulation therapy more effective.

With the CoaguChek XS system, we can help you to get back to a lifestyle as independent and as safe as possible, based on our more than 15 years of experience in helping patients monitoring their INR - anywhere and anytime. This is one of the reasons why well over 1 million patients in various countries are tested on a CoaguChek system (2008), at their HCP’s practice or at home.

The information provided on this website will answer many of your questions. Be sure to ask your doctor or Healthcare Professional if you have others
