Benefit from Roche's long lasting experience in PT/INR Monitoring
CoaguChek systems are easy-to-use reflectance photometers, portable and battery-powered devices for rapid measurement of Prothrombin Time (PT) and International Normalised Ratio (INR) for the monitoring of oral anticoagulant therapy. Regular PT/INR Monitoring is necessary as oral anticoagulant therapy is recommended in several indications. It has always been a challenge to healthcare professionals and to their patients: standard care involves a venous blood sample or the patient themself being sent to a laboratory. This is time-consuming and patient’s compliance can be limited, as it often requires a second appointment with the healthcare professional. The CoaguChek systems provide accurate results from a single drop of capillary blood from the fingertip within one minute.
Roche Diagnostics was the first company worldwide to introduce in 1993 a new concept, either for healthcare professionals (Near Patient Testing) or for patients (Patient Self-Monitoring or Patient Self-Management). This first device, called CoaguChek, was immediately successful in the marketplace. In 1999, its successor, the CoaguChek S system, was introduced and kept on convincing more stakeholders about the benefits of Coagulation Monitoring. In 2006 Roche Diagnostics has launched two brand new systems, as patients and professionals have different needs:
- the CoaguChek XS system for patients:
small size and light meter, top or side blood dosing, on-board quality control on each strip and easy to use interface to ensure better safety and comfort
the CoaguChek XS Plus system for healthcare professionals:
same features as for the CoaguChek XS system, but with extended quality control and data management options
In 2009, Roche is launching its latest system dedicated to connected healthcare professionals (HCPs) with higher throughput:
CoaguChek XS Pro system
same features as for the CoaguChek XS Plus system, but on top with a barcode scanner for operator and patient identification, increasing workflow efficiency and safety.
All three meters show highly comparable results among each other, with the former model CoaguChek S, with results from reference method recommended by WHO and with reference reagents used in central laboratories.
CoaguChek XS, CoaguChek XS Plus and CoaguChek XS Pro systems share the same technology, e.g. electrochemical detection system, and the same strips, with major improvements when compared to former generations, such as a low (1.0) ISI, no Heparin (both Unfractionated and Low Molecular Weight) interference at therapeutic levels, long shelf life (up to 18 months from production) at room temperature and on board quality control on every strip in the measuring channel.
